Build Your Wealth in the Trades

Students in grades six through 12 — and other young adults — are invited to Build Your Wealth in the Trades. This event will showcase the many skilled trades careers available right here in southwestern PA. RSVP by phone at (412) 690-0918 or email us at BHCFpgh@gmail.com.

Build Your Wealth in the Trades

WHEN: Saturday, May 13

WHERE: The New Life Family Worship Center, 1301 Davis Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15212

WHAT TIME: 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. with lunch to follow

Participants will engage in hands-on learning alongside skilled trades’ professionals — building the wooden structure for the food fridge initiative; installing an outdoor outlet and exterior lighting; and identifying the correct tools for the task and their use. During lunch, our local experts will discuss their experience in the building trades. You’re invited to come out and hear from real community members about their paths to success, and to discuss the great pay, reliable benefits and rewarding opportunities that await. Apprenticeship opportunities will be presented and literature will be distributed to those interested.

The event will feature a tool raffle, lunch & networking.

I want to thank our sponsors who stepped in to support this initiative for a second year in a row. Volunteers from the IBEW Local Union 5 and Carpenters Local 432 make the skills session possible. Thank you! I also want to recognize Carpenter Lead Brent Sopko. He helped guide the direction of the event,” said Joseph Glassbrenner, president of the Brighton Heights Citizens Federation. “And I’d like to call on all teachers, parents, guardians, grandparents, friends, pastors and community members to help us get the word out about this initiative.

“I am passionate about the opportunities a career in the building trades has provided me. I want to share this message, and I need your help. Like many other young adults, the opportunity to attend a four-year college just wasn’t available to me. But with a career as an electrician in the IBEW Local 5, I have a reliable income, health benefits, retirement benefits, and I learned a skill that will serve my family for a lifetime. Please join in this day of learning and fun and do not hesitate to email me with any questions.”
