You might be surprised to know that we have a garden club in our neighborhood. It consists of members from the Observatory Hill and the Brighton Heights neighborhoods and meets on the second Saturday of the month (excluding June, July and August) at the Saints Cyril and Methodius Byzantine Catholic Seminary on Perrysville Avenue near the entrance to Riverview Park. (Not to be confused with Saint Cyril of Alexandria Church on Brighton Road.)
The Acorn Hill Garden Club was founded in 1996 in order to fulfill its members’ love of gardening by beautifying their homes and community gardens and the entire neighborhood. They also aim to promote an interest in horticulture, appreciation of artistic design and awareness of ecology and the environment. Any neighbors interested in these principles are eligible for membership. The dues are $20 a year for individuals and $30 a year for families.
Meetings consist of presentations by horticulture and wildlife experts, workshops featuring seasonal projects such as wreaths and decorations for the holidays and field trips to garden displays and interesting sites in our area. Members take turns providing refreshments for the meetings.
Anyone interested in attending a meeting and seeing if they would like to join is invited to call the Brighton Heights Answer Line and leave a message at 412-734-0233 or email us at contactus@brightonheights.org
