Household Hazardous Waste Disposal |
|
Household Hazardous Waste is that portion of a household product which is no longer usable, leftover, or not wanted and has to be disposed of. You can tell if a product is hazardous if it has words like CAUTION, WARNING, POISON, or FLAMMABLE on the label.
Have you wondered what to do with the old paint cans sitting in your garage or basement? What about dad's old chemistry set collecting dust in the attic? Now's your chance to get rid of these items with a good conscience.
PRC is the administrating organization of the Southwestern PA Household Hazardous Waste Task Force, a group designed to offer residents of SW PA the opportunity to safely and responsibly dispose of HHW. More information is available on the website: http://www.prc.org/community_hhw.html
Participant fee $2/gallon—cash only. This fee pertains to all counties except Westmoreland. Sorry--no credit cards or checks will be accepted. The Task Force reserves the right to charge extra for excess quantities. For detailed information visit www.swpahhw.org or call (412) 488-7452. |

Reusable Building Material Disposal |
|
Donate your old plumbing, lighting and hardware fixtures, mantles, doors, windows and other building materials to Construction Junction, or shop for used (or new) items at the center. Construction Junction's mission is to support and promote conservation through the reuse of building materials. We strive to keep usable building materials out of the landfills and provide them to the community at very low cost. In this way, our mission has an environmental and social focus. Construction Junction specializes in used and surplus building materials and is supported by Pennsylvania Resources Council, the oldest grass roots environmental organization in the state. The idea for Construction Junction was developed by PRC, the Green Building Alliance and Conservation Consultants. A project of PRC, Construction Junction is funded in part by the Heinz Endowment and private contributions. Construction Junction also offers recycling services for freon appliances, non-freon appliances, scrap metal, and serves as a drop off station for the city of Pittsburgh's recycling program. http://www.constructionjunction.org/
