Around two decades ago, lightning struck a huge pine tree in Legion Park and destroyed it. This just happened to be the tree that the Federation decorated each Christmas. So with no other evergreen tree in the park, it wasn’t possible to hold the light up ceremony any more. Our then Councilwoman Barbara Burns came to our rescue and had a small tree planted in the park.
Now held in the California Avenue business district, vendors line the business sidewalk as revelers delight in a true winter wonderland.
